Technically a high tunnel, our structure allows us the ability to start our growing season earlier. This year we are going to take advantage of the 3-4 week headstart and grow corn inside along with tomatoes, beans, peppers, strawberries, and eggplants.
In the spring we make way for new plants. We plant directly into the ground or in our smaller, internal greenhouse and then transplant when warmer weather comes.
The warmer weather allows us to open the sides and grow the veggies that enjoy the higher temps. The space also works well for plants that need added shelter.
The fall brings the harvest of all our late producers and the removal of dead plants and supplies. It is also a time to prepare us for the winter transition. The 2023/24 winter season will bring new guests into the building.
After much research, we have decided to utilize the space for our laying flock. This will allow for a larger space for them to move and help fertilize and work the soil within. it will take some work to prepare and transition, but the payoff should be worth it.
